Doctrinal Series.Biblical doctrine is teaching found in Scripture that helps us understand God and His will for our lives. 2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;”.
Having a solid foundation of Biblical doctrine in our lives is important. 1 Timothy 4:16 says, “Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.” Not having a solid foundation of Biblical doctrine can lead to error. 1 Timothy 6:3-5 says: “If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness, 4 he is conceited and understands nothing; but he has a morbid interest in controversial questions and disputes about words, out of which arise envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions,5 and constant friction between men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain.” Titus 1:7-9 give us good reason to have sound doctrine: “For the overseer must be … 9 holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.” |
